Luke Platt: “Nothing was planned”
March 6 th 2024 - 17:53
“It’s a very special day and nothing was planned. You have to take it as it comes. It makes yesterday even more exciting. I can’t thank the guys enough.
The Quick Step guy (Louis Vdervaeje) said we had a gap, why didn’t I take my chance? It was a head start and I expected to see Remco and Roglic come round the corner any minute. Matt Hayman told me that if the gap was under 10 seconds to sit back.
Whatever happens in the next few days is just a bonus, we have Dylan (Groenewegen) for the next two days. We have such a diverse team, we have a team for sprints, time trials and the sprints. Unfortunately, Michael went home today.
I have a very special relationship with Richie Porte. I would not be a pro rider without him. He taught me everything and it’s a great honour to be following in his footsteps by leading Paris-Nice. If I could have half the career he had as a pro rider, I’d be happy.
We’ll see in the next few days what kind of climber I am. For now, I’m just a time trial specialist who needs a head start to start climbing.”
